Before I start this, I am not supporting any hacking or moding of anyones products, I may have or may have not done this, I will not release that. I am merely pointing this out. http://www.hackaday.com/2008/08/14/watching-dvds-on-your-wii/ What I ask is, if the technology is obviously there, why hasn't Nintendo used this to their advantage? Sure, Microsoft and Sony have Blu-Ray and HDDVD but, at least make this an official option Nintendo. If the technology is there, why not just ...
ill stick with my multi region player and leave my wii alone, i think modding and hacking a console is pointlessIf the technology is there, why not just ...
i think modding and hacking a console is pointless
Hacking/Modding for this DVD player yes it is pointless.
both the ps2 and xbox had bad dvd players and that is why i went with the wii as wanted a GAMES CONSOLE...
Most people already have at least one dedicated dvd player at home, so why go to the bother of making a console do the same thing. Consoles are best for playing games, and there's no need to wear out the Wii by playing discs unecessarily. And it would be tricky to control DVD play functions with the Wii remote.
Nintendo would have to pay licensing fees to offer dvd playback and we all know how tight Nintendo are with their money.

I'd weather have better hardware.
nintendo makes a Game console not a Media Decvice.
The failure rate of a 360 is like 5-1, PS3, 10-1, but a Wii is like 10000-1. I was a gaming console, not a console that can do some of the stuff that my PC and do, except have red rings all the time.(these are not actual numbers, but the difference i'm trying to prove is true, don't deny that the other systems are junk)

THANKYOU!!!
It wasn't worth the time, effort, and money on Nintendo's part. If you don't own a DVD player already then go to Walmart and buy one for $20.All you are going to be doing is wearing out your system and shortening it's lifespan. This is what happened with my PS2. I used it as my primary DVD player and now it barely works even though I didn't even use it much for games. Don't sacrifice your $250 system when a $20 player can do the same job.
The failure rate of a 360 is like 5-1, PS3, 10-1, but a Wii is like 10000-1. But, neither compare to the pathetic failure rate of the 360.

I also wonder if it is a GOOD dvd player. I dont know anything about DVD picture quality, but I wonder if N would have to include extra technology to make a decent player. If that would be the case, i could see why they would skip it even more so.I remember the PS2 being considered a good quality player, and Im sure that costs more than inferior players
Why does everyone talk as if adding a dvd player to a system suddenly makes that system suck. I don't understand how people can be against added features. Its stupid
A DVD playback is worthless now. You could just buy a DVD player for less than 30$.

I would buy a PS3 for only the Blu-Ray driver since I don't care on the games except the Team ICO game. I think the players will be cheaper very soon.

I don't see what everybody has against it. And even if you ask ''Is it worth it''? Yes, it is worth me getting a DS game.I also don't need any more wires accumulating behind my TV.
