play a match of smash bros with motion controling without the sensor bar?
you can't use the senser bar for smash bros. because that's for the ''pointer'' or ''cursor'' only, all the other motion is just sort of ''built -in''.and if your not sure, why not just try to use motion controls in brawl (or any game) while your wii senser bar is unplugged.

so i can still use the motion sensing without the bar plugged in?
so i can still use the motion sensing without the bar plugged in?
As long as it doesn't involve the pointer, yes.

I don't think motion controls are used whatsoever in Smash Bros. but I could be wrong.
I don't think motion controls are used whatsoever in Smash Bros. but I could be wrong.
They can be for ''shake smash'' but in my personal experiance it's no substitute for a c-stick. Mostly because if you're pushing th control stick in a direction then that is where the smash will go no matter which way you shake it, whereas the c-stick would stop you and deliver the smash in the desired direction.

The same type of shaking as Wario Land: Shake It's shaking which in Brawl causes a smash attack (if I understand him correctly).
You just shake the Wiimote in the general direction you want to do a smash attack. Like the user said it's a replacement for the C-Stick on the GC controller.
play a match of smash bros with motion controling without the sensor bar?
you need the senser bar to start up smash bros anyway because when at the wii menu you can't play it until you point at the screen and click on it, so regardless you are going to need a senser bar to play smash bros or any game for that matter, including game cube games which is really annoying when you have to like turn on the Wii mote just to start up a gamecube game.
